SITE SPECIFIC : performance workshop

ree

  1. Go to a place that is not where you live and get everyone attending to bring one object. (an abandoned place is preferable)

  1. Everyone spends 10 minutes exploring the place, choosing upon a certain area within the place that they are drawn too. *At the end of every exercise ask the group about any observations or feedback and offer your own observations and affirmations.

  1. Ask participants for one person to offer their place for the first exercise

  1. Go to that area. Do a series of 30 second tableau’s, of one person at a time, asking others to observe.

  1. Do a series of tableau’s with two people, allow time for everyone to view the tableau and then instruct others to jump in and tag out one person at time - so the image is constantly changing and each person is responding to the first person in the space..

  1. Move to another area that someone else in the group has suggested. In this area, ask everyone to do a one minute action based performance drawing on the environment.

  1. Go to an area which has space and not too many of its own objects. Put all objects that have been brought on the ground in front of you. For this exercise each person will perform with the same object for one minute at a time. Ask for someone to start - that person chooses the object that everyone will use. Once started at the end of one minute ask for a new volunteer to tag out the current performer and begin their own one minute performance.

  1. In the same area pair participants up, now give them 3 minutes to perform and use all of the objects that have been offered by the group during that 3 minutes and find some ways of responding to each other.

  1. In the same area again change the pairs so everyone has a new partner - remove some of the objects so you have less objects to work with and go again for 3 minute performances.

  1. Move to a different area that has been suggested. Now offer a timer of 10 minutes for everyone to perform at the same time - allowing interaction and individual action to happen simultaneously.

  1. Congratulate everyone on their work and participation! And dream of new collaborations and art making!
